Physical Therapist – PRN

Job Summary

  • Responsible for assessment, planning, and collaboration on patient/caregiver goal development in Inpatient, Outpatient, and Swing Bed settings.
  • Provide appropriate interventions to meet the individual patient’s needs in acquiring independence in functional mobility skills to participate in and regain functional independence in mobility necessary to return to the preferred home environment.
  • Modifies therapeutic interventions as the patient’s abilities /skills change to meet goals and are appropriate to the patient’s age, educational needs, and family/guardian expectations as related to the patient’s diagnosis.
  • Make recommendations regarding durable medical equipment needs in patient’s preferred home environment as applicable.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to collaborate with caregivers, other disciplines, and other hospital staff.
  • Complete evaluations, develop measurable goals and plan and implement therapeutic interventions at intervals determined by State and Federal regulations.
  • Communicate results of evaluations and reports to doctors, nursing staff, and other therapies as appropriate: including frequency/duration and treatment codes.
  • Establish a system of documentation that is professional, efficient, and timely providing proof of accountability that conforms to State and Federal policy (daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, re-assessments within 30 days, discharge summaries as applicable).
  • Collaborate, consult, teach, and monitor patient staff involved with the implementation of physical therapy interventions.
  • Supervise, monitor, and evaluate the job performance of any assigned Physical Therapy Assistant or student as required by the Louisiana Board of Physical Therapy.
  • Leaves adequate treatment information for the care of patients for anticipated absences according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Make recommendations regarding durable medical equipment needs in patient’s preferred home environment as applicable.
  • Conducts themselves professionally and is aware of tone/noise level generated by personal conversations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy Program following successful completion of all fieldwork requirements.
  • Must have passed the Physical Therapy National Certification Examination and be licensed by the Louisiana Board of Physical Therapy.
  • Must complete at least 30 hours of continuing learning activities bi-annually as prescribed by the Louisiana State Board of Physical Therapy to maintain licensure.
  • Maintain current CPR.
  • Satisfactorily completes hospital orientation and annual competencies.
  • Population served may range from infant to geriatrics and must pass competency checklists for all responsibilities outlined by the department program and policies

Physical Requirements

  • Walk an average of one mile per day, climb flights of stairs as needed, and transition from standing to the floor and back during service provision.
  • Occasionally squatting, kneeling, and balancing. Frequently bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, and pulling.
  • Frequently carry weights up to 50 pounds and lift up to 100 pounds. Occasionally push or pull on weights over 50 pounds.
  • Dexterity for moving and positioning patients.
