for a Happier, Healthy Life.

Bunkie General Hospital’s Cardiac Rehab Program is dedicated to healing hearts by providing patients with compassionate, quality care that will support them as they make vital lifestyle changes to promote optimal heart health…aiding them in a faster recovery and return to productive lives.

Our recently renovated Cardiac Rehab facility has a variety of exercise tools to strengthen your heart, as well as expert resources to help prevent future heart problems. The program is designed so that each participant will increase their knowledge of the cause and effect of heart disease, medication knowledge, and risk factor management. Anyone undergoing surgery or other treatments for a heart condition will need further care and long-term support to ensure a safe and healthy recovery. Our skilled staff will develop a unique cardiac rehabilitation plan tailored to address individual health conditions and meet the patients specific needs.

What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?

Cardiac rehabilitation is a comprehensive program involving a pre-program admission assessment, medical evaluation, prescribed aerobic exercise and resistance training, education, and cardiac risk factor modification under the guidance of a trained rehabilitation staff. The goal is to return the cardiac patient to full, anxiety-free function and to provide the educational tools necessary to prevent heart problems in the future.

Details of the Program

A typical cardiac rehabilitation program lasts 12 weeks and includes three sessions per week for a total of 36 sessions. This is the early outpatient-Phase2. All patients who exercise during this initial 12 weeks are placed on a heart monitor during exercise. The participants’ pulse, blood pressure and EKG are monitored while aerobically exercising. Referring physicians will receive regular progress and session summary reports. All sessions are supervised by an ACLS certified team consisting of a physician medical director and registered nurse. Sessions last approximately 60 minutes.

If the patient wishes to continue a structured, clinically monitored exercise program after completing Phase 2, they may enter the next phase-Phase 3. Telemetry is discontinued, but heart rate and blood pressure will continue to be monitored. Sessions are provided by the Cardiac Rehab Nurse. Periodic EKG sessions may be administered during the phase if necessary.
