Job Summary
- The pharmacy technician assists in processing prescriptions, managing inventory, interacting with patients, and performing administrative tasks under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Helps receive and review prescription orders from patients and healthcare providers.
- Accurately enter prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
- Select appropriate medications, count or measure dosages, and label containers properly.
- Prepare prescription labels and package medications according to safety and legal standards.
- Maintain strict adherence to federal, state, and pharmacy laws, including HIPAA regulations.
- Perform all tasks strictly within the scope of practice for pharmacy technicians, and under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Greet and assist customers at the pharmacy counter in a courteous, professional manner.
- Answer non-clinical questions about prescriptions, refills, pricing, and general pharmacy procedures.
- Handle prescription pick-ups and verify patient information.
- Refer medication counseling and clinical questions to the pharmacist.
- Helps process insurance claims, resolve rejections, and assist with prior authorizations as needed.
- Assist in ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and pharmacy supplies.
- Check for expired or recalled medications and dispose of them properly.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and security of medication storage areas.
- Comply with all pharmacy protocols, legal regulations, and company policies.
- Remain informed about and operate within the scope of practice as defined by state pharmacy regulations and company policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned by pharmacist.
Education and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current LA Pharmacy Technician license.
- 2-3 years pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods.
- Ability to handle interruptions and adapt to changes in workload.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Must be able to stand for long periods, lift/carry up to 40 lbs., perform repetitive tasks, and be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job.
